La Track Of The Day odierna è tratta da Continuum, terzo album in studio del bluesman statunitense John Mayer. Uscito nel settembre 2006 il disco è sicuramente il lavoro dove più si avvertono le influenze dei musicisti che hanno contribuito a formare il talento del chitarrista di Bridgeport: su tutti Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King. Gravity è un blues lentissimo, alla quale Mayer è particolarmente legato tanto da definirla la canzone più importante che abbia mai scritto:

“This is the most important song I’ve ever written, it’s a time capsule song. I will listen to it every day of my life if I need to. It’s honest to God the most important song I’ve ever written in my life, and it has the fewest words.
I was in LA, and I was there for the summer, just writing tunes, and I was in the shower.
And I don’t know where it came from,but it’s the damn truth you know, and I just sang, “gravity…is working against me.”

Il pezzo gli vale un Grammy nel 2009 per Best solo rock vocal performance oltre ad entrare direttamente alla posizione #84 nella Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time.

P.S. Per una canzone con un titolo del genere non c’è da meravigliarsi che la famiglia dell’astronauta Charles O. Hobaugh abbia scelto proprio Gravity come sveglia per il proprio famigliare a bordo dello Space Shuttle Endeavour nell’agosto del 2007.
